Disabled Budoka
Everyone has the right to train in and enjoy the martial arts. Backing up that statement means accepting a disabled student and potentially organising competitions for them.
Disabled Judokas train and compete in Europe, originally designed in the UK, now world wide.
The D.A.C programme helps and promotes Judo for the disabled but is not just restricted to Judo.
Any Martial arts instructor interested in attending a Disability Awareness Course programme, please contact the national president. Any governing body within the disability field interested in the programme, to run courses, seminars, workshops and competitions, contact the president.
Judo is now an official sport in the special olympics. G RULES

These are the rules that have been put together for all our competitors and are ideally suited and adapted for all disabilities.

These rules at present have been adapted to suit all abilities/disabilities. What we cannot say at present due to the numbers that participate in our project is that individual disabilities will only fight in their own disability group.

We are recruiting and making good progress on this and I believe that in a couple of years time, we will be able to hold championships for individual disabilities. But for now, we have to mix some disabilities in competitions with the divisioning process we use. All contests are evenly matched.

The Right To Participate

People with disabilities or special needs are not only capable of taking part in sport and physical activity and enjoying it, but some of them will be extremely good at their chosen events.

Disabled people must have the right to choose which activities they pursue and to participate in them in the widest sense their abilities will allow as performers, officials, helpers or administrators. Sport for disabled people should not be seen purely in terms of therapy, but in terms of the same benifits of social contact, health and fun that the able bodies enjoy.

For some disabled people, it is important that there are clubs and sessions reserved exclusively for those with specific disabilities. This particularly applies where those who are susceptible to injury need to avoid the risk of accidents, or when a people wish to learn a sport in the company of those similarly disabled. It may well be after a short period of time this latter group will wish to join amd intergrated club, and participate on equal terms with the able bodied.

The Disabilities

There are many disabilities that are or can become eligible to participate in our project. We have no restrictions.

People who participate come from them all -- we are in this for INTEGRATION and SPORT for ALL.

If you have a disability or special needs and want to participate in the sport of Judo, please contact us.
